Tests and diagnosis
Treatments and drugs
Coping and Support

What is interesting to me is that it is called a social issue. Well, many Aspies get so they don't care about the social aspect, as people have let them down so often and they often feel they don't belong. It's tough, because as kids, they try hard to make friends, but it's hard to keep them, so over time, they stop trying and rely on themselves. So sad. I would love to see more publicity and teaching of tolerance and understanding among children.

Thanks for posting this. A friend is seriously thinking her son has Asperger's and after reading this, I think I agree with her. I am going to send her the link.

Interesting to read. My nephew was just diagnosed, and it sure explains a lot.

My son is 8 years old. Every since he was born he had issues with loud noises, would throw severe temper tantrums, he still does this when he is frustrated. He had speech delay, but is considered normal in speech now, but he had to be put in a close of 4 kids because a normal class was too overwelming to him. He would have temper tantrum, for what seemed like no reason at all. They the school moved him to this therapeutic school where I requested them to check him for Asperger's because he had alot of matches. The test was completed in April 09 and they would not diagnosis him with asperger's, but did diagnosis him with Sensory processing dysfunction delay, when is a symptom of the aspergers. This is where your senses can over or under process the enviroment.

My son has to carry ear plugs because loud noises will make him scream in pain. Any reputitious noises, even talking, can cause him to raise his voice to be quit. But one of the things i missed all these years and never caught on,
my son likes his clothes a little big. It's because he has a hard time with buttons and zippers. He's coordinating is about two years behind, he just learned to ride his bike. A lot of the reason we did not notice is a person who has this issue has no frustration tolerates at all and give up before they start and if you push them too hard, you will see the explosive temper.

Let me know what you think...

I'm familiar with these things, that's for sure. DS is 9 and still won't try to ride a bike.

Schools can't really diagnose Aspergers, especially when you don't get services for Aspergers; you get school help for the specific disabilities such as OT for the coordination issues, speech challenges, etc., and only if it's academically related...my son needs more than just what he gets at school.

Talk to your pediatrician about your concerns. He'll probably refer you to a Developmental Pediatrician.

I fought with the school system for 4 years and they said all my son has was a speech delay. I knew something was wrong so I went to outside sources.

My best advice is to take your son to a psychologist who does developmental testing and they will test all around and give you any diagnosis they see.
Also a child psychiatrist is a good start because they are able to diagnosis with Aspergers. But you will still need the test results from the developmental testing to take to the school.

I was denied any services for my son for over a year because they cannot diagnosis medical conditions they can only offer services for educational purposes. Once you have indepedent testing and diagnosis they have to do something.
Read this book: The out of sync child: You will be amazed it is like you are reading a description of your own Aspy as you are reading it.

Get an ADVOCATE even if you have to pay for one it is the best thing you will ever spend your money on. School systems treat you totally different when they know you have someone on your side that knows the law.

Get as much help and support as you can now it will only get harder as they get older.

Also Harbor Freight Tools ( you can go online) has ear muffs brand name WESTERN SAFETY for $15.00 and they cancel out noise over a certain DB. They are great and worth every penny. I have a pair for home and school. They do require batteries.
Good Luck! It is a long and hard road but there is hope!!
