Remember the little boy in The Polar Express that talks a lot, butts into others' conversations and talks very nasally? DS heard me telling his dad that that little boy seemed to have Aspergers, and I didn't like that they used it as the brunt of a joke (honestly, I thought Tom Hanks was more sensitive than that).

Well, recently, he's been talking in this piercing, irritating, nasally voice. He's loud as it is, but even when he lowers the volume, he won't lower the tone. My ears shut right down. He told his dad earlier today that it's another "urge" (he has OCD symptoms and tics, too). Later tonight, I identified what it was. He didn't realize the tie in at first, then said that's probably where he got it from.

Ugh! Why can't they copy the GOOD things out there?

Oh my...you are right, it is kind of funny, but not right now.

As many times as my class has watched that movie at the Christmas party, I have never paid attention to it. I didn't realize there was a character like that in it.

I seriously doubt that the writers sat down and said, "Let's find a disability that we can make fun of. Hey, how about Aspberger's?"
Most of us grew up with at least one kid who thought s/he knew everything, interrupted everyone else to throw in his/her two pfennig, and/or had a really grating voice. I doubt that all or even most of those kids had Aspberger's - some just wanted attention. I think that's most likely what they were drawing on.
