We spent the weekend finishing the required learning skills for Hunter to go into ski school with a group and it made me think of how our children learn.
I wanted to share what I had thought about.
All things that our children can do it built upon a foundation. All skills start at the very basic. We don't expect that they will just figure it out as the NT's do, by learning from peers or example. Each skill must be taught at the very basic level! It is hard work for the parents and for the child.
We use ABA in our home. Each program starts with something Hunter can do well, he can match. So I make a master picture and then a duplicate. He starts with matching each item up, then we match while saying the name, then we try to get him to say the word without a prompt. In the end he just does it like a NT. But for us it was weeks of work.
Each thing our child does is built upon a strong and solid foundation. Take the time to lay each brick, brick by brick to build the foundations for success.
Thank you for your thoughts, I sometimes feel as if I'm not getting anything threw , to dd but then one day she finally does it. I have really come to appreciate all of her efforts.
Don't give up, it is each small brick by small brick. Lay the foundation so you can build on it. It is so much hard work and effort and I know you feel like it is hopeless but as you know, one day they surprise us all! The work pays off and you can keep building on the skill.
I hope this helps others in keeping strong in our lives.
Thanks for posting this. I will keep it in mind when I have rough days with a couple of the students that I teach. You have a wonderful attitude! Thanks for sharing it.
