Does your SN child have any vision issues? Do they wear glasses? If so, do you have trouble getting them to wear them?

I have a time trying to get some of my students to wear their glasses.

My guy wears glasses. He's had them going on 2 years. Because the Dr. at the time said he only needed him when he needs to see in the distance, like the chalkboard, our problem wasn't getting him to wear them, it's been his losing them...I ended up buying him another pair when he lost the first. Now we have both, so have a backup pair (one has the transitionals, too, so he can use them in the sun...great for zoos, etc.). I do have to remind him to wear them when we're going out where I know he'll need them.

From a recent visit to a pediatric opthamologist, I found his Rx increased and he should wear them more often.

A local optometrist thought he needed vision therapy, especially w/the ADHD. Of course, she offered it, at minimum $300 per session for at least 10 sessions...and insurance covers none of it because it's experimental and not proven. That's why his ped. referred him to the opthal. to rule out things. The Opthal. and the ped. strongly advised against us wasting away the money we don't have. I have to say, though, if it were much less expensive, I'd try it. Anything could help.

Not my SN child but my daughter has terrible eyesight with a really strong prescription. She wears them all day with no trouble because she can't see without them.

I agree - anything I can afford I am willing to try. $3000 is a lot especially when it could go longer than 10 sessions!

No vision problems here. Kaylee did have to get evaluated at one point. He used a spinning cylinder with black and white lines on it - he said that was the most excited reaction he had ever seen to it - haha

My son wears glasses. He wears them all day at school but I do allow him to take them off at home. They are mainly to correct astygmatizm, not so much for vision. He is 7.

My dh is an optician and works w/ opthamagists, I have never heard of "vision therapy." This sounds like a money making scheme to me, but I'll ask dh when he gets home.

Both my kids have glasses. They've always just worn them and have never given us a problem about it. My SN kiddo was floored when he found out he needed them and tried to get out of wearing them, but we just insisted and so did his teacher and that was that. No problems now.
