My ds has aspergers, and all I have read about the controversial link between the Thimerasol preservative and autism disorders. I am leery to have my ds vaccinated. We have never in years past and he is rarely ill. But with the media hype...Now we have decided totally against H1N1 because it is just way too new. So what's your take?

My kids will never get the flu vaccine nor the swine flu. Thermosal does not cause autism as it is a genetic disorder. I have a close friend who studies the affects of the flu shot in the body and she will never give her kids it either. The media has to promote hysteria somewhere. What is even funnier is the if you can read the insert of the swine flu vaccine it says it is only 50%effective.

we always get the flu shot and this year will be no different. my 8 yo has aspergers and I have a 10 year old nt daughter. we will also get h1n1 shot. spoke with our pediatrician and decided to go with vaccine. I was uncertain because of all the hype, and that's why I asked our doc. she said if Bobby were her child she would give him the shot (and she's been his dr for so long and really cares for him so I believe her).

After so many years of them using mercury as a preservative I built up a sensitivity and can no longer get the seasonal shot and as long as they use a tetracyclin related antibiotic I can not get the mist either. Don't see the formula for the H1N1 being any different. I will not be getting either this year. I just make sure I wash my hands frequently and go around the house behind my son with plenty of disinfectant wipes. Don't forget to hit those door nobs, the phones and the refrigerator door. I also take a baggie full of wipes to the store and wipe down the handles of carts. So far Food Lion in my area is the only one that has wipes at the door to do this with.

In my area they have Thimerasol-free version of the shot but it's for pregnant women and babies. You could ask for that version, but I imagine you'd have to wait until to see if they had enough left after it was given to the intended recipients.

My dd (14) has autism and we haven't given her the vaccine. It's in short supply here, so the point is kind of mute right now anyway.

DD#1 is going through some neurological things right now, so I am not going to give her either vaccination as it can cause some neurological reactions.

DD#2 is 9 months, so I got it for her since she has been getting sick so easily. I got it as well so I will hopefully not give it to DD#1 either.
