My youngest has tics. We brought him to a neurologist but he did not exhibit any tics during that visit. Now I think his allergy sniffing and throat clearing may be another tic. Also he gets whiney and over stimulated very easily. Anybody else care to share your experiences?

I've not experienced this with my son. Does your son take any medication that this could be a side-effect of?

My son has tics. He has Asperger's which is an autism spectrum disorder as well as an anxiety disorder. These cause his tics, sometimes they are worse than other times. Some medications also affect the tics and how severe they are.

You may want to explore an autism spectrum disorder or a sensory integration disorder this can cause many problems with children getting overstimulated and acting differently. I went four years with my son like this before he was diagnosed.

I had tics as a child. Eye blinking and I think also making some wierd noise. Outgrew them. My son had noise making and also chews on stuff constantly. He has been diagnosed hyper, but does not take medicine. I would say the throat clearing could be a tic, but if he is sniffling, it could just be allergies.

My son does, to the extent that it's affected some of his IEP goals, which are being put aside until some of the medical interventions are investigated. Anxiety is part of it, his med may be a cause or something else. He started tics at age 4, before any meds entered his life. He started the tics months before his dx was done.

Sniffling and throat clearing can both be tics. I would just be sure to mention it to his doctor.

yes. My son blinks his eyes and clears his throat. We thought he might have allergies, vision problems, or turrets. Still not sure what the cause is but he is ADHD and the tics come and go. My nephew has been diagnosed with turrets but his tics can get pretty severe. I would say make the dr aware of it and if it isn't causing him any problems, just wait it out. He may outgrow it but be sure to inform his dr if anything changes.

Is he on any ADHD medications?? My BIL's boys are both on ADHD meds and have tics, they were told it's a side effect of the meds. Neither of them had tics before they were medicated for their ADHD.

My son had a tic, and he was also on an add medicine (I believe it was the non stimulant one) can't think of the name off hand but he did this eye thing with a yawn, he was switched from that medication to another one because of different reasons and hasn't experienced any more tics. I do have an older child that constantly clears his throat tho, and I am not sure if it's allergies (which he has pretty bad seasonal allergies) or now reading the posts wondering if possibly it's a tic . Good luck & God bless I am a blessedmomwith3boys too
