This month I have a p.p.t. for my 13 year old and also one for my 5 year old. I know things could be worse but I absolutely hate these things! I feel so intimidated and I know I'll be pmsing during that time too. It's like it's the school against me. How much rights do I actually have as a parent? It feels like very little. I guess the people at the meeting have to agree so if they don't agree does that mean my opinion doesn't count? That's the impression I'm under. I don't want my 5 year old to stay back in Kindergarten. I have so many people tell me how smart he is, he doesnt' miss a thing! Just because he is not into the writing so much he's labeled as having small motor skill problems and has to have o.t. The school psychologist or psychiatrist I forget which one is a total bi***. I was suprised my son was pulled out of the classroom on a day I was volunteering and I later called her as to not make a scene and I was told it was just the end of the year testing. When I asked why I wasn't informed of this I was told I signed a consent form at the end of the year last year and that it's good for a year. So much for parent involvement. Really the more I'm seeing the less I'm liking. How is he going to be treated like a "normal" child if he's treated "special".

I don't know the answers to this but in a book I have called "From emotions to advocacy" they cover all things related to an IEP and parents rights. Please PM me and I will loan it to you look at and get some ideas.

I hope all turns out ok. Big hugs, April

That's what I was wondering? Is it the same as IEP meetings (Individual Educational Plans) If so, have all your questions ready, this is the time to get them answered. Try not to look at it as them against you. Look at it as a whole team of people working together to provide the very best for your children. BTW, my son's friends are jealous because he gets to go out of the class with the speech teacher!!! The little kids do not usually see this as a bad thing!
