I talked with my son's pediatrician today. I told her I ordered the Fiengold diet and that I was interested in allergy testing for my son. I just have a very strong believe that nutrition is a part of all of this. She didn't. She hadn't read the results of the evaluation yet, but told me that the only proven results come from behavior modification (charts) and medication. Obviously, not what I wanted to hear.

Anyway, I ordered this diet information and am very interested and pleased with what I am reading. I'm going to give it a go. I'll let you know how I make out with it. Has anyone else ever tried the Fiengold diet for their kids?

I know I am a broken record but I tried the Fiengold diet on DD. We were seeing a development Pediatrian. She said it was not fair to my DD to only eat certain things and in the long run she would resent me for making her stay on. I could tell a difference in her. She was 9 years old at the time.
Stick to your guns. You are the mother. He is your son. If that is what you believe will work, try it.
I'm not surprised at the doctor's reaction.

My son's ped. is the same way. This is the same ped that we really like, but he didn't ever think anything was different w/my son, which is why he wasn't diagnosed until I tried to get him into preschool. I take it you are talking to a pediatrician, and not a developmental pediatrician. Dev. ped.s will probably be more supportive.

I do see their point - you spend a lot of money on these diets and supplements, but they aren't proven...however, as long as they aren't harmful, and you can afford it, give it a try. There are a lot of quacks out there, getting rich off desperate parents looking for a cure that doesn't exist, and out Drs. don't want us to get caught up in that.

I don't know a lot about the Feingold diet, but do keep us up to date. I ran out of my son's spectrum vitamins and I see a difference, so I will be ordering more!!!! I never saw a difference before! It takes a long time for these things to work, and it's so gradual I didn't notice it until he'd been off for awhile. It's your child - but know that you will get more support, if that's what you are looking for, from a nutritionist or holistic Dr. Peds are great for keeping your child healthy and for helping them when they're sick. That's their specialty.

I'm glad you are going to go through with the diet, I work with several physicians who have the special needs patients I have cared for over the years... none of them want to even consider diet might be a factor - none of them are willing to receommned or give any encouragement to parents wanting to try something different.

I know several families who have their kids on a special diet, I have no idea what the diet is but a couple of them are seeing results.

As long as it isn't going to cause any ill effects it's worth a try.

I wish you luck, please keep us posted I am interested to hear if the diet is beneficial.

How do I find a developmental pediatrician or a holistic doctor? I looked in the phone book and it doesn't say anything there. I also looked for a nutritionist with no luck. I don't really know where to start.

we have a nutritionist at our county health department. have you tried looking there? i agree, you should do what you feel like is best for your son... as much as they'd like to believe, doctors don't know everything. i give my 12 yo ds (who has ADHD) 2 cups of coffee in the morning. the doc said i shouldn't because of the caffeine, but it calms him down soooo much!

You could ask your Dr. office for a name. You could also go through your insurance company. Ours lets you look it all up on the web. That way, if it's on the list, you know that it's on your insurance. The school may also know of one or two, but can only give you a name, not a true referral. I have the most luck w/insurance.
