but I was wondering if anyone here has a child with diabetes or problems with their blood sugars? My oldest child Sam is 10 and we have been dealing with this for a couple of years now, and I was wondering if anyone here has to deal with this? She is not diagnosed as diabetic because her sugars are so out of whack, she has high she has low and you never know what they will be. As of right now we control it with her diet but we have been warned that at some point she will probably go on insulin. Just wondering how moms deal with it?

Just wanted to say Hi and welcome. I have no words of wisdom but it's nice to know that people are thinking about you.

Are you testing her blood? Is she drinking excessive amounts of water? Why hasn't she been offically diagnosed? If her blood sugar is so out of whack, d clear diaganosis will be helpful.
I don't have a child with diabetes, but my dad had it VERY bad. I know a little about the disease.She must be felling miserable. I hope you can get it under control soon!

Sam has been dealing with this for a few years, when she first got sick it was very up and down. Some times very high and then very low. We have been controling it with her diet and for so long she was doing okay. We do check her blood when we think that it is high or low and we occasionaly check her urine if we feel like she is spilling protein. ( thankfully we havent had to do that in awhile. ) I have noticed that lately she does have spells more often and I am also noticing things like physical activity affect her levels and she has more dips then. I am just wondering if other parents have dealt with this and maybe some suggestions for me. My MIL and FIL both have diabetes, both of my grandparents had it and my husbands grandmother also has it. So we have had a lot of experience with it but with adults only not any kids.

My girlfriends daughter went through the same thing. Her pancress was working one day and not the next. They were checking her blood sugar frequently and used insulin to help with the lows. She is now diabetic and on the insulin pump. It's a stressful and frusterating time. Be your childs voice to the doctor and stay strong, things will get better.

My best friends son is diabetic. His symptoms really do not sound that much different then your daughters. He can be low one minute and high the next and he had a diagnosis over two years ago. If i were you i would take her in again or have a second opinion. Sounds like she has it to me.

It doesn't matter if sugars and sometimes high or sometimes low. The docs should have given u a clear diagnosis. Have u have glucose testing done? more than just a fasting? something doesn't sit right here. You only need to fail 1 of the 3 3hr glucose to be daignosed diabetic and if there is a family history the doc should be taking it alot more seriously.
I don't have a child who is diabetic but I kow that for kids it can vary due to their hormones. If u are on a diet and he is still having high/low swings then it is not being managed enough. any exercise will always drop the glucose levels. have u checked out the diabetic assoc website?

My niece is a Type I Diabetic. She is almost 6 now but she was diagnosed when she was 3. My sister has her on a strict schedule of testing, making sure she's eating properly, insulin (fast and slow acting) and is also in contact with a diabetes nurse at our local children's hospital every week. They keep track of her numbers, the type of insulin she gets etc

It sounds like they didn't really give you a diagnosis...how exactly did they tell you to control it with food? Are you on a schedule for testing her blood every single day? Not just when you 'think' it's high or low, but a specific schedule? Honestly, I would consider a second opinion...your child's long term health is at risk here.
