I can't say how important early intervention is. I think my family is a perfect example of that. My youngest DD was diagnosed with SID at 7 months. I had literally stopped questioning these behaviors because they were the same behaviors that I had been dealing with with all my DDs. My oldest at the time was 14. After doing alot of research and reading on my own I asked that my oldest DD who was now 15 be evaluated. She was also diagnosed and with SID so I had both my other DDs evaluated and they were also diagnosed with SID. We have been doing OT with 3 of them for over a year and my oldest also does speech therapy to help retrain her brain. She was diagnosed with ADHD also. My 11 yr old just started OT to help deal with her anxiety issues.
We have slowly seen an improvement with my oldest and my 2 youngest are so much better and tolerant of things. Don't get me wrong we still have issues but we are more capable of dealing with them. Also I will no longer accept a diagnosis of ADHD for any of my children. I know their individual triggers, when they over stimulated or just tired. Now it is a process of educating those around us.
