He's home! My house looks like a freight train ran right through the middle and dumped whatever load it was carrying. So much new medical equipment! NO room in my little tin box whatsoever! For now, he is sleeping in the living room with me. During the next couple of weeks, we are going to slowly move everything that used to be the office to my room, then make the office his room. Since he has to be hooked to O2 24/7, the concentrator wont reach my room, where he used to sleep, so now I am losing my big beautiful bed to sleep on the couch from now on. Trach kids cannot be left alone for one minute, because they can accidentally pull out their trachs or get a plug. Especially dangerous with Tommy because he has no airway other than his trach, so if it comes out and I am in the potty, he'd probably die before I was finished. (my 9 year old watches him so I can go!)

I am homebound now. Can't leave the house without an O2 tank, and they only last for 1 hour! Since I only have 8 of them, I am not going anywhere except the doctor's office from now on. Guess this means I am going to make Diva REALLY fast, since all of my friends now live in my computer! Guess that will have to start this weekend, because after the day I have had trying to get him home, equipment set up, dinner,(take out!) meds given, blah, blah, blah...I am off to bed!

We're always here!

Is there a caseworker you can talk to? It seems, with all I've heard on here, the state can provide respite care, knowing that you need some downtime, with other kids or not! Are you at least getting a fold out couch so dh can join you? Can he help take turns?

I'm so glad he's well enough to come home!

I am so happy for you to have him home. Please dont forget to take care of yourself, is there a nurse that can come in and give you break every now and again?

Welcome home!! I am so happy that you & Tommy are home! I agree with momof2boys is there a nurse that can come in so that you can have a little bit of a break? A break for you every now & then will benefit both you & Tommy.

I'm so glad he's home again! Now you can concentrate on getting him healthier and taking care of you and your family at home. Just don't forget to take care of YOU! You'll always find friends here to be with! We're still praying for you all.

I know you said Tommy doesn't qualify for nursing, which I'm still just in SHOCK over! He'd be getting at MINIMUM 8 hours a day in MN, probably more due to his other issues, and the fact that he's now on 24 hr/day oxygen. I would have to believe SOMETHING can be done. Maybe one (or ALL) of his doctors can write letters of medical necessity to "the powers that be" to at least get you a home health aide a few nights a week, so you can sleep in your own bed.

That said, I'm so glad he's home now, and you can move on to the next phase in his recovery! ray:
