a friend of mine has 4 year old that has just been diagnosed with autism and she wanted me to ask if anyone on here knew of any safety devices for seatbelt buckles in cars, her ds keeps unbuckling himself, and he is to big for a 5 point harness, and it wouldn't help becuase he knows how to get out of those as well. any suggestions would be welcome thank you.

This is such a great question, and not just for Special Needs kids, either. I've heard many parents complain of the same. I hope one of our members knows of a special lock. I had looked for one, just in case, with no luck. Fortunately, for me, discipline and warning worked, plus having a hard to open Britax - by the time he was old enough to have the strength, he knew better.

Has anyone found a decent solution? My diva knows how to open child proof medicine caps, so she may be a challenge in this area.

I wanted to ask if the child is undoing the locking mechanism that the seat belt goes into to lock?

DS can do the same exact thing. He can unlock the seatbelt so we went back to the bigger carseat. It is more like a booster and we put a padded thing in the middle to get the cross over straps down so they don't hurt him. He is up higher and can't get to the locking device but in a few more months we will be back to the same problem.

Good luck and please let us know if you find anything that works.
