My son was diagnosed at 4 and 5 years of age. After talking w/other parents, I think I want him tested/evaluated again. As he ages, I think his needs change and I want to be sure they are being met. Also, he is outgrowing other things, so I don't want to stay in the old frame of mind. This will help ensure his needs are met at school, also.

I have only had to deal with speech issues, but it tooke 3 separate evaluations until my son qualified for services. My youngest son will be having his 3rd speech evaluation soon. 1st time they told me he qualified for services and would start in the fall. Then we moved. 2nd eval was after we moved and he did not qualify for service but they were very nice and offered to re-evaluate as often as I wanted. I am ready for that now and plan on calling to schedule that before school starts up again.

I think its wise to re-evaluate to see if your current therapys are working, and also if their needs have changed.

Yes, I had my ds reevaluated. It turned up he needed additional services and we added more minutes to his IEP.
It took quite a while to get everyone together and all the paperwork completed but was worth it in the long run, at least in this case.

Oh, goodness NO! They'll just find something else to add to Tommy's list!

However, for Matthew, my ADHD child, I think a yearly eval is a good thing. I mean, the kids have to have a physical once a year, so we should talk about how he is doing with his meds and how he is progressing/lacking as well.

I think little Tommy is excused for awhile. I just want to see an updated pic with a smile on that adorable face. How is he doing? Feel free to pm me any time, young lady.

I have had it done several times with my son. It just helps to know what their abilities are. You can see the growth that has been made - or not. But I like to know.

The Wyoming waiver requires a re-evaluation every 3 years. I think there is so much difference and DS has aged out of some things. He can now brush his own teeth, with help and dress himself, with help. But most of his motor skills were just because he was young.

His language is now so close to a NT that he doesn't need ST but because of the autism we will keep him in.

I just don't think that the Wyoming waiver addresses the needs of autism. I am grateful for the program...and the money...but DS does not have a physical disability. Autism is a social and behavior disorder and our needs are so different.

I wonder what will happen when do get our re-eval?
