When I was in an IEP meeting at the school, one of the participants said, very matter-of-factly, that 86% of autistic people were mentally retarded. None of us had ever heard of that, and I knew it wasn't true. I've been exposed to a number of autists, and have not seen retardation in any of them. Sure, it could be there in some, but not nearly the 86% she quoted.

This video, along with the accompanying article proves what we know is right, in our hearts. Autism is a communication issue, not a mental one, except that many autists think differently. But don't we all, to some extent? Different doesn't mean wrong.

The article is informative. As you watch the video, be patient. Those of us who are "typical", especially with Type A personalities, will become impatient, and even on edge. Trust me. Keep watching through to after the humming and rattling stops, and you will be amazed.
