That is the diagnosis given to my 4 year old. Many may remember all of Brandon's wonderful antics over the summer. A steak in my bed, hamburger rubbed all over my dryer, inappropriate urinating everywhere....He just kept getting worse and worse until one day he got mad at his 9 year old brother, turned around and kicked Tommy in the stomach. Tommy wasn't hurt, but I've never been so shocked in my life at his behavior.

He had a psych evaluation last week and after talking about everything we've been through, his explosive behavior, acting out, and lack of sleep this is her only diagnosis for now. He's only 4, so we really can't put a DX on him until he's older. A lot of this could still be immaturity and acting out for attention. We both know this is NOT ADHD. His older brother, dad, grandma and most of dad's relatives are ADHD, so we knew right away he didn't "fit in" with the typical family behavior. (family reunions are FUN....if everyone remembers what time to show up)

So for now, we've started on Clonidine. We'll see how he's doing in a month. Right now its a challenge to get him to take the pill every day. He took it okay this morning, but tonight, threw up on his dad when DH tried to get him to take it. I think getting him to take the meds is going to be more of a challenge that the behavior itself!

You could always try my little trick. I hate swallowing pills... I have gotten better about it now that I am an adult. I would take a spoonful of applesauce or pudding and hide it in there that way there is no way I can taste it or anything and it goes down very easily. Hope that helps! Hamburger all over and steak in your bed? That must of been really nasty. Was it Raw? Good Luck Hun!

Yes it was raw, and yes it was gross!

I've tried to mix the pill. It can be crushed so we can mix it with about anything, but he's so smart, he knows its medicine no matter what we say and still refuses to take it. It's the idea of medicine more than the medicine itself.

Rene, you know I'm having challenges with ds and his med. Since it can be crushed up in your case, that is great (Ours can't.) Make it irresistible for him. Ice cream. No nuts, so he can't chew. But tell him he has to swallow it right down, then he gets a few extra spoons for himself. It's like it is so cold it numbs the senses so the gag reflex is tempered a bit. The other thing is to teach him to keep his mouth closed (bribery works best) and to swallow what comes up. For some kids it's psychological, but I know it's both psychological AND physical for DS.

I dont really have any tips for you but please whatever you do don't stop giving him the meds. I dont know if the dr explained this to you but if his condition gets out of control in 90% of the cases of untreated or poorly treated impulsive disorder can lead to an antisocial personality disorder (those would be the criminals, not emo rockers, lol) and an oppositional defiant personality disorder (self explanatory, you say "no" and he says "yes" just because). I've worked closely with juvenile offenders in juvie jail and 80% of them were diagnosed with ADHD or impulsive disorder when they were little but the parents decided not give them meds. Obviously things got worse over time proceeding to become oppositional defiant disorders and turning into antisocial teens/adults (no sense of empathy, dont care if they kill someone, only think about themselves).
