This weekend my son was admitted to the hospital with strep but that wasnt the real concern he has blood in his urine and his enzymes levels were up to 19000. Under 100 is considered normal. They also think his muscles have begun to break down. When we got to leave last night his levels were down to 8700 which is good but still way over normal. He gets retested on thursday and Im suppose to push fluids. Has anyone ever gone tthrough anything like this? They said it may be from a virus that attacked his body. But he has had weekness like this before. Honestly I feel stupid thinking about it today it dawned on me how many times he says he's tired or feels weak and I really just thought he was faking and wanting attention. Maybe he wasn't.

Help!

Wow, sounds scary for both of you. I hope things work out and that he has a fast recovery. I don't have any experience with this, other than one time when my DD had elevated white blood cell count...my mind went crazy with the possibilities and it turned out to be exactly what my ped said she thought it was, a virus. But it was a very stressful week or two because of my anxiety. Hang in there.

I don't have any experience with this either. Just wanted to say that I hope his levels return to normal soon.

Do you know exactly which enzymes were elevated?

Hope he gets to feeling better.

Today we went to Joplin to see Bryan's doc. She decided to hold off on testing his enzyme levels b/c she said they will definatly still be up for awhile. Plus she is sending him to see a Rheumatologist (spelling??) at Children's Mercy in Kansas City. We should know today or tomorrow when that appt. will be. Right now he is allowed to do what he can stand. She even cleared him to go to school but only for 1/2 day. He is suppose to exercise but also rest. Which is what he has been doing. He plays outside for a little bit then comes and sleeps on the couch. The lyme desease test came back negative but there are a few more tests that won't be back till Monday and the Virus scan they did can take up to 3 weeks. So right now its pretty much letting him do what he can and pushing fluids while we are waiting to see the specialist and get the other results.

Thanks girls

Just talked to his Doctor and she talked to the rheumatologist. He is going to have his blood tested every week for the next 4 weeks. If it goes down without further incident then it was probably from a bad viral infection but the rheumatologist said it was definatly not caused by the strep. However since he has had muscle problems in the past they want to watch him very closely. If he blood work is not down to normal in the 4 weeks or if it starts to rise again he will be sent to KC where they will run a muscle biopsy and other tests. So as for now its the same he can do whatever he wants as long as he sleeps when needed and drinks alot. Thanks for the continued prayers. He has had a really good day with little pain[]

I hope you get some good results. Let us know when you see the rheumatologist. I would think they would check them more often, but maybe I just don't know. Good luck!!
