My DS has high functioning autsim/sensory integration and ADD. I have recently read about vitamin therapies - has anyone tried them?

I have also read about special diets, but hesitant to try them. DS has VERY limited food choices and these diets limit the few things he will actually eat. Has anyone tried or is trying them?

OK. Me again. Yes, under the doctor's (developmental pediatrician, not his regular pediatrician) guidance and supervision, we are trying this. It's hard, and we're not completely there yet. She wants to see organics as much as possible, drop gluten, etc. We did blood tests (8 vials! poor kid) to check for sensitivities and allergies (yep, onion - like me, bananas and dairy sensitivity. No wonder he had such bad reflux and gas, no matter whether he got formula or breastmilk). As far as vitamins, we are on a regimen she suggested. I order them from Kirkmans. Kirkmans will not advise you on what to use - that needs to come from your doctor. My son takes a spectrum multi, calcium, zinc, omega and we're looking to go toward probiotics. We will be starting magnesium very shortly - some studies have shown marked improvement with that, but it depends on the child and the situation. No way, however would I do a self diagnosis and self prescription. As you know, vitamins in high doses can be toxic, and two together can cause problems. A good balance is needed. To be truthful, I didn't think it made any difference, and told the doctor so. She said that it wouldn't be a huge difference, but very gradual. Also, that she may need to adjust the dosages. He's only been on it for about 6 months now. BUT, with that said, I did skip a few days and saw him acting out a bit, so maybe it does help.
