Having an SN child can be time and energy consuming. I have a 7 year old Aspie, but also a dramatic diva in the tantrum phase. I really don't feel I do either justice in getting mommy time.

How is your balancing act? What kinds of things do you do?

Our autistic dd is #2 of our 7 kids. It was really hard when she was younger and I was pg, or had an infant/toddler to care for. Now she's a little more independent and more stable, I'm able to do more things with her siblings.

But there are just some things that we can't do as a family because dd just won't be able to handle the stress. I feel bad that her siblings don't get to do some of those things more often.

Well, we try to! Only time will tell if we've been successful. OUr typical son has been sitting through PT and OT sessions since he was born, and has gotten pretty used to "waiting up" for brother. We try to do a lot of stuff as a family and then we also split them up and do things with them individually (Dh takes one kid and I take the other) so that they both get some time to move at their own pace.
