Lately, my son is reporting having issues falling asleep. This happens on the weekends, also, when we may not be giving him any meds (the ones he's taking now don't build up in his system, so the Dr. says it shouldn't be a residual effect). I'm about to try melatonin on him. He has a problem with pills, but there's this one company I did a sample study with who just brought their product to market. It's chocolate with melatonin in it. It really worked on me, with nice dreams, no groggines, etc., so I'm going to buy some and give it a go with him.

How does your child do? Do you have a problem falling asleep or staying asleep? I have both.

My son is a great sleeper. When he is tired, he goes right out (no matter where he is ) and stays out regardless of what is going on. I am the same way.

None of my DDs sleep well and never have. The 3 oldest are all on prescription meds to help with sleep and sometimes even those don't help. My youngest who is 2 takes a 3mg chewable melatonin. For now it helps her fall asleep as does all my DDs meds but it does not keep them asleep for more than a few short hours. My 5 yr old also was diagnosed with central sleep apnea and from my understanding there is no help for that.

Sleeping well is not an option for safety reasons and DH rarely hears them (or so he says. I just keep remembering I only have 16 years to go until everyone is 18. Then hopefully I can sleep through the night.

My SN son is a great sleeper. He gets so tired out just getting through the day, that he is OUT by the time evening comes. My typical son is more of a challenge in that regard and has been since he was a baby. I fall asleep with no problem, but then I am up and down all night. If I could just STAY asleep!!! It's really getting to be a problem and I am thinking about going to the doctor about it.

I have twin 5 year olds. One sleeps fine. The other still rocks himself to sleep on his hands and knees. He is a very light sleeper and I will hear him rocking sometimes in the middle of the night. About six times a year he has night terrors when he is really tired. Overall he gets about 9-10 hours of sleep a night. I know this is not enough. My DH puts the boys to bed and I've had discussions about the bedtime. One of the problems is my other son may be running around for another hour of two. My sons are still in preschool so I try to get a nap in at home too in order to get my son some extra sleep.

The lack of sleep definitely affects his behavior. He is having some anxiety and socialization issues. Our pediatrician recommended neuropsychological testing. We have our initial meeting tomorrow. I will be bringing up his sleep habits because I think it is important.
