Do you have a LOCAL group you can count on for support? I was very grateful to find a local group, as I felt so alone in dealing with ds' issues. I so wish the Dr.s would let parents know.
I was a bit disappointed a few days ago when the leaders sent out an email telling us that it was time to pay our group dues, then a "donation" of $30 was asked for. First of all, nobody, including the leaders, who I spoke with via email and phone a few times, never told me there were dues, and I was taken aback. I'm not sure what the "dues" go for! They are a non-profit. I'm sure they aren't getting rich off it.
Then, today I was doing some answers to other members' questions, and asking a few of my own, then realized how much this group has helped get some answers and referrals, and that I could probably even get more out of it. Thus, I will pay the dues. But I honestly don't know what they do with the money; I'm just thankful the group exists.
