I was cracking up at Desperate Housewives last night, where Gabby kept abusing the handicap parking and the guys in wheelchairs. They make her so shallow and irreverent! It was also timely, because just Saturday, I was at IKEA and felt the typical feeling that there were way more handicap spots than needed! Do you ever get that feeling?

Do you ever say anything to those who abuse the spaces? I have been tempted many times, but am always afraid that perhaps they have a temporary condition, or may have a passenger in their car that has a situation. What about you??

I've never really noticed to tell you the truth...

I really wouldn't be a person to confront someone though, not only because I just am not into confronting strangers, but also just because someone looks like they're not handicapped, doesn't mean they're not. JMO

That show made me so mad! Gabby has always been lovable, but that was over the line for me.

I would never confront anyone about using a handicap spot when they are not supposed to, but a lady I used to work with used it, she had the sticker and everything, but it bothered me that she did because she didn't "seem" to need it.

No, but only because I'm one of those people who have had to use a handicapped parking space even though I apparently don't need one. Having to stop what I'm doing to justify to a complete stranger what I'm doing is silly. It isn't like any ol' person on the street is capable of making a spontaneous medical decision. My own doctor has gone years trying to convince me to have a handicapped parking tag while I continued to refuse.

The same goes with other handicapped facilities such as bathroom stalls. In the end, my medical condition is really no one else's business.

I have been to places where it seems there are FAR too many handicapped spots (every GM facility I've worked in where I have to walk a half mile into the building, past TONS of empty handicapped places). I would never confront someone no matter if they didn't "look" like they need it. I'm bright enough to know that not every condition is obvious. One of my former managers at work was a beautiful, hot, sexy woman in her mid 30's. She dressed beautifully and drove a red convertible. She also had a heart condition and could not walk long distances or take stairs. So she had a handicap spot and she was ticked at the times people stopped her. My sister has one for her knee. Some day she can walk great - others, hardly at all. On a good day, people would question her. I had a temporary one w/ my foot injury but, as it healed, I felt better. Luckily no one questioned me.

You are right. I'm glad I've never said anything.

As for the bathroom stalls...I never used handicapped stalls, even if I had to wait. Other people do, and that's fine. I did use them when I was pregnant because the stalls at work were impossible for me to get into towards the end of my pregnancies.

I always use the handicap stalls. More room. I have never seen a handicapped person in a public bathroom. If i was in there and one came in I would get out right away. I dont check about handicap parking places though

As long as they have a handicap sticker, whether they look handicap or not, is fine with me if they park in the handicap parking spots.

What I do have a problem with is parking in an handicap parking space with no sticker on your car. This is illegal and they should get a ticket. And they do need people to speak out against this.

When the boys were alive, I had the removable tags that you hung over the mirror (now they have pernmant tags). If they weren't with me, and I didn't have to get their wheelchair out, then I wouldn't hang the tag and use the convience of the closer parking space. After all I wasn't handicap they were.

I agree that it seems like their are handicap places all over, and more than necessary. But as a mother who had to use them for her kids, there never seem enough.

JMO, but I view handicapped bathroom stalls differently...they're not JUST for handicapped people, they are just handicapped accessible. Handicapped parking spaces are just for handicapped people.
