I don't think DS is ready for sleepaway camp, but I'm hoping to be able to put him into a couple of day camps. Are you signed up? How much are you paying? I am astounded at $200-$300 for just one week, and that's for the cheaper camps!!! I haven't found any yet for kids like my son!

We really play it by ear every summer...just depends on what my kids want to do. My older son sometimes does a few weeks of sleepaway camp with a few of his friends. It can get expensive. Both my kids have done sport related sleep away camps (even more expensive!).

As far as 'day camp'...for us, it's really been week long theme related camps over the years. Nature type camps, art camps, chess, horseback riding, acting, cooking, sports etc Not all day, day camp. It just depends on where you live but around here, there is a TON to choose from.

Dept of Social Services here has generously offered to send Matthew and Brandon to camp this year! Someone is bringing me paperwork tomorrow as a matter of fact. I will decide which of their programs work best for us, but honestly, if they can go for free and they're out of the house I don't really see why not!

My ds(5) is doing 4 daycamps and 2 vbs. I kinda went a little crazy this year. I usually do 3 camps a year and they were all at the YMCA from 9-12.

He is doing 2 nature camps (300) each but the place is supposed to be wonderful and very, very structured. I'm so excited about those 2 weeks but my hubby is still having a hard time swallowing the price tag.

Then he is doing 1 ymca 9am-4pm one week camp and 1 week at YMCA soccer camp from 9-12.

Then 2 weeks of vbs for 3 hours each day.

So, I'm anxious to see how the summer goes. I think the YMCA all day might be too much but I wanted to try it.

My hubby is already talking about less camps next summer. It's so hard because my ds needs so much structure.

My kids love camp and go for a week a year. Once they are 11, they can go for two weeks. It's $680 a week each and a 4 hour drive to get there. Generously paid for by grandparents.

(It's the same camp I went to when I was a kid and my mom and her siblings went to when she was a kid. She grew up very poor and someone in the church sponsored her to go so she wants to pass it on.)
