Has your special needs child taken swim lessons? Mine has, but he never "graduated". He was very fearful of going under the water. Now that he's 8, he's a fish, and has gotten rid of his fear. However, he thinks he knows how to swim and doesn't want lessons. Truth is, he can't swim, but rather has learned to float. Wonder where he gets his stubbornness from?

My almost 6 year old has been in swim lessons from almost 3 years. We are at out third place because he didn't really graduate from the other programs. He is not scared but his low tone and poor body awareness made it hard for him to get the strokes down. He could get from point a to point b but it wasn't pretty.

I signed him up at a only swim class place and he is doing great. I bit the bullet and put him in privates for 3 months and he starts group lessons next month. He jumped 3 levels by taking the private lessons. He is also very stubborn. I can't tell him anything--I just let the teachers do it.
