DD #3 has always been at home with DH and has never went to daycare. Well this is her 2nd week of her trial period at headstart. I never realized and DH has never said that DD will not eat or drink anything right away when she gets up because it makes her gag. Even dry brushing her front teeth. My dilema is that we only have 40 minutes from the time DD gets up until we have to leave for the day. She has been missing breakfast all together because of the gagging. I've tried toast, crackers, dry cereal, apples, oranges, bananas, water, cheese, yogurt. Any other thoughts or ideas as to what I cando?

How about a smoothie type thing so she can drink her breakfast.

If not, maybe you can explain this to the school and she can have more of a breakfast type thing a little later, like a granola bar or a peice of fruit.

We go thru a ton of instant breakfast when DS is on his I won't eat phase. You might try that and also we found Hunter likes very small bits of food. I mean little pieces cut very very small.

Good luck to you and with the new school!

When I was young, I had a hard time, at many times, eating early. Two things helped: let me graze. Sweets threw my stomach off first thing in the morning; eggs made my face numb (still do if I have them too early). Milk was hard to digest and gave me cramps (this is all still true). Save eating for later, not upon first rising. Just allow for enough time. Don't force me to eat all my breakfast. I know what I want and need. However, do work with the daycare so that I can snack later when I'm hungry. Let me tell them when. I'm an individual and they need to treat me like one. Maybe I don't want to even eat at home. Work with daycare and let me eat when I'm ready. I'll know. Just don't let them make me wait. For me, 8:30-9am worked best.

Just some ideas.

Schools cannot usually modify their schedules around when each child likes or wants to eat. I think the schedule modification needs to come at home. Why not just get her up earlier so that she is ready to eat at home before going off to school?

I don't like to eat right after I get up either. For me that means I usually eat a granola bar or piece of fruit in the car on the way to work because then I've been up long enough that it's not a problem. My DS is not a big breakfast eater either so we compromise and as long as he eats something - that's okay with me. Some days he only eats a few animal crackers or graham crackers. He never leaves with a full balanced breakfast in his tummy but he's got a few bites of food in there to get his brain going at least. Figure out what might work with your child at home to help.

I am not a breakfast person either, and never have been. But, it's the "breakfast" food that I can't gag down until abour 9am or so. See if that is what it is or not. I still to this day eat pizza, spaghetti, chinese, etc at 6:30am. I figure if it's healthy enough to eat as a lunch or supper meal, then breakfast is o.k. too!

Hi. Re the school's schedule: yes, I understand this for a regular school, but for daycare and headstarts, this should be an option. It was in all the ones I checked out, so if you're told no, you may want to check w/ the director. I'm sure they don't want her to eat in front of others, but perhaps they can take her somewhere eat. Just an idea.
