Today I am bringing you news from the world of ADHD, because scientists claim they have found a difference in the brains of children with ADHD versus "normal" children. The brains of these children who have been diagnosed with ADHD were scanned with an MRI machine. They compared 40,000 different points in their brains looking for signs of thickness in the brain tissue.

They discovered that the brains of children diagnosed with ADHD were a little behind schedule in growing. Yes, you heard that right. They said they are about three years behind the brains of other children. Everything else was normal. They said if they wait three years those children will catch up and turn out just fine.

Here is the complete article. The ADHD Scam and the Mass Drugging of Schoolchildren (Transcript)

Is there a link to the specific research he's talking about??? I'd be interested to see if scientific methods such as a control group, matching of sample, sample size, statistical significance of results, etc was used. We were taught in my Master's Nursing courses that you can't just accept all research blindly. You have to look at how rigorously the scientific research standards were applied to the research. So I'd love to actually see the STATISTICS, not just this guy's words.

All I know is I took a child who was progressively doing worse in school despite all her teachers saying she was very bright, who was struggling, and more importantly getting discouraged because she just couldn't seem to get it right and was making bad grades. I then had her tested and resulted in medication. She took ADD meds from late 3rd grade through graduation. She has received a full tuition scholarship to college (plus another small scholarship), is a National Merit Commended Scholar, an AP scholar, etc. So NO ONE will convince me that the meds didn't help.

Another thing I find VERY interesting is that while he's saying don't use traditional medications, there are ads all OVER his site for "natural" treatments. Have to wonder if his motivation is just making money off parents desperate for a nontraditional treatment. If so, then shame on him.

The article doesn't mention the age of the children tested.

My son struggled through school until he was tested after 9th grade, he was close to failing many times. After starting meds he finished 10 grade on the A-B honor roll. School isn't the only place the meds helped either, he always had trouble making friends before and now he has a huge group of good friends and makes good choices.

I couldn't even finish the article. I say we put him out in the middle of nowhere with a group of ADHD kids with no meds, feed them an organic diet and laugh when he comes back bald from pulling his hair out. Let's see what he thinks then! LOL!
