The autism spectrum, consider music therapy.
My son is on the spectrum as a mild Aspie, High Functioning Autism. He's not been really into music, especially the way his sister is. We recently started a music therapy class. He LOVES it. So much that we want to find a piano for him and his sister. It's a small group, and he's learning more social skills among other boys who accept him for who he is, and he accepts them with no question. They all get along, there's no bullying, and he's doing so good with taking turns. I think it calms him. These classes are very reasonable - about $15 a class. He has an awesome teacher, and it's so nice to have him go to something educational (each class is an hour long) w/out whining.
He's always ignored his radio and CD player, along with the books that make music, whereas his sister dances, sings and loves music.
Do you have any experience with music for your SN child?
