I was googling and somehow came across a website that sells dvds that 'teach' social skills. http://www.modelmekids.com/ They even have some worksheets that you can print off for free. I got so excited that I ordered all three (after checking ebay first :D ) dvds they offered. This is one department my ds can use a lot of help (we also do social stories). I'm hoping it wasn't a waste of money. Just thought I'd pass along my 'discovery'.

Yes, I will let you know how we do. The website had sample videos of what is on the dvds and they seemed very age appropriate for ds(7).

I'm not familiar w/PECS. Is this similar to Carol Gray's Social stories? I'm looking for something to put in the shower for ds so he knows what order to clean his body. I have to constantly remind him. He likes to wash his hair, his arms, chest, tummy and legs but he forgets all the other parts. He also just likes to stand in shower and wash the door, the wall, the floor, etc.

I really need these for my little guy. They are so expensive as a group. If anyone knows of a way to get a discount, please let me know. The ones I've checked before, along with a couple of the books, are so cheesy that they really aren't real life - they are so exaggerated, and Aspergers children are so literal they have no real meaning (I've tried). Also, if anyone has, indeed tried these, what do they think?

You know, goodnightmoon, with your idea and some of the other ideas here for what we need, I'll betcha we could create our own line of things to meet the needs with the huge customer base out there and go into business! I'm not saying get rich off others' misfortune, but meet a need and be SAHM!

Pecs stands for Picture exchange communication system. I used if for my son. It has helped him so much. He has learned new words with it and can now ask for things without the picture. We still have a long way to go. But I do use a picture schedule and it keeps him on task and very little arguments. I also bought the $200.00 program and have found it is worth every penny. You can talk to your school and have them make pictures for you but I would also be willing to share.
