...and why my son started showing signs (which neither I nor anyone else recognized at the time) on day two after his birth. Yeah...they called this the "refrigerator mom" theory and it's waaaay outdated. And...ummm..dads are always inattentive? Funny, but the research and all else seems to fall on the mom's shoulders in way too many cases (including mine).

what's even more sad is that there are some people who will listen and believe what he says just because he is a celebrity. very sad.

Some people will always say stupid things to get attention. The more that people try to defend their position and argue with this guy, the more he likes it. As they say, "Any publicity is better than NO publicity". We should just shake our heads at these thinly disguised stunts and carry on with our lives. They thrive and feed off of our outrage.

He was on Jon Stewart a couple of weeks ago and said his comment was taken out of context. People only took THAT part of it and ran with it. He was NOT blaming inattentive mothers, he was being sarcastic. He was trying to make the point that everyone is over medicated, and always quick to make a diagnosis of somekind, when there is none. Basically, if a child is slightly hyperactive, he must have ADHD, get him on some meds, get him into therapy, get him into special programming, ect. People are going out of thier way to get thier kids diagnosed at autistic or ADHD so they can get help or aide that they don't need.

NOT my words, his.

It was a re run last night. The OP may want to look it up

It was taken COMPLETELY out of context. Imagine...the media actually put a spin on it....

I saw this interview as well. He clearly explained that he has close friends with an autistic child and it's a disservice to people who have kids who have true needs that need assistance when parents who just have kids with minor or even normal behavior issues are looking for a quick fix diagnosis or pill instead of taking the time to teach or parent them. THAT is what he was talking about. He was pretty ticked about how that was spun, as I recall.

I so only WISH my son didn't need help or aids. One thing that "people" teach celebs is how to word things so they aren't taken out of context - anyone in the public light usually has handlers that help with that. Book editors, too, usually help with wording so this doesn't happen. I tend to believe he was actually trying to get attention - use the shocker to grab attention, then give the details. It's a basic of advertising.

Look at this commercial, for example, of Andrea Corr from The Corrs, (EXTREMELY popular in Europe) named as the most beautiful woman in the world:
YouTube - Andrea Corr HIV

But I've never seen his original statement.

The sad thing is that even schools are drivin to the diadgnosis lable so they can get THEIR extra money also so it is happening. ALL OVER parents, schools....etc. My brother had sever Dyslexia got my mother to lable him reading for the blind while in school so the school could get all types of things and a laptop ( that a treacher took home for her KIDS and they broke it the first year) so much other stuff happened it was a mess and my mother had to get the state involved in the end.
sorta no diffrent then my due date being Jan 6th and my Dr. asking me if I wanted my c-section before the end of the year for the tax write off. BEACUSE people ask for that to be done... it never crossed my mind. I would never use my child(ren) that way but parents do. A guy I use to did they pusshed him around in a stoller till he was 6 just so he could keep passing his evaulations so they could get a check every month.
