Yup! We only have one car and it is no problem for us. That said it is because DH works from home and I am a SAHM. It is nice since we don't go through a lot of gas since we don't drive too often unless we are going out in the evening or out of town.

OK putting our winters aside...outside at a bus stop in -22F/ -30C weather with a little child is NOT something I'm willing to do.

Well when I was married we had two cars and I think if necessary we could have survived with one car. The person with the car though would have to be the one responsible for getting DS#2 to and from daycare.

I live in a city with public transit right outside my doorstep. Now that I’m single with the two boys I’d have to say I could not do everything that I do in a day without my car. I have a really fast paced lifestyle and have many things booked one after another and if we had to rely strictly on the city bus to get around we’d never be able to a fraction of what we do. I will say I hardly ever drive my oldest anywhere anymore>> he’s got a bus pass and I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We could, with some compromises from both of us. I would have to schedule all events on one day of the week and drive dh that day and he would just drive the rest of the week. I stay home and homeschool. We do use mostly the car only as much as we can because DH car is on older gas pig that he LOVES and tells me he will restore it and it's a classic so we can't get rid of it!

I don't have time for a lengthy reply now, but to answer the question, yes. We've been doing it for over 7 years. Our saving grace is that dh works less than 10 minutes from home and comes home for lunch nearly every day. When I need the car I take him back after lunch, run my errands, then pick him up at 5:00.

No I take the kids back and forth to school. They are at 2 different schools with 2 different drop off and pick up times. I also volunteer a lot at school.

Dh needs his truck for work.

Good question! Wish we could b/c cars and care are expensive! But no, we have to have 2 cars. DH works 45 min in one direction and stepson lives over an hour in the opposite direction. I don't work, but we live more rural...no public transportation and everything is too far to walk to.
