I have been on my dh's butt for MONTHS that we overspend and we need to just stop. I buy groceries and pay bills, rarely do I buy myself anything or anything else we don't need. About once a month I take the kids to McDs, but we hardly eat out. Dh isn't TOO bad, he has gotten MUCH better, but he still spends, he buys a grinder every day and beer every night. It all adds up.

The checkbook got completly away from us this week. It is SO far overdrawn, its going to take almost a whole paycheck to clean it up, but then I can't pay my mortgage this week. I havn't missed paying the mortgage in years, its the one bill I always pay no matter what.

the electric company called me today and told me they have a returned check from me and there is a $30 fee for a returned check. SO now on top of everything else, I have to go there tommorrow after dh gets paid, and give them cash, they won't accept another check. I have NEVER had a returned check with them.

I'm so frustrated. I don't know what to do right now. It hasn't been this bad in a long time, and I have no idea how it got to this point.

We all have had months that have we have spent to much.

The first thing to do is to see where the money went and what you spent in on. That way you know where the problem is.

The second thing is to get all of the bad checks paid and the fees.

Then you need to at least call the mortgage company and let them know when to expect a payment from you. This way they won't think that you are dodging a payment.

Don't worry, the rest of the month will be fine.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Hopefully you can get things turned around quickly and get everything back on track. We've all had months like that where there's more going out than coming in. Take a deep breath-it'll all work out!

Good luck to you - and consider calling the bank to have your fees waived or at least reduced. They may work with you.

We were overdrawn in our checking account last week, we had spent $150 over what we had in our account but the overdraft charges were $487!!!! So, I called UsBank and they transferred me to the bank branch where we signed up for the accounts and they talked to a manager and put all the money from the overdraft back into our account. We never go over but I had put money into our savings and then we had little charges here and there that added up.

I would try calling your bank and just saying things got out of hand and that you would like them to give you the overdraft charges back so you can make ends meet...they might...doesn't hurt to try.

Since this rarely happens I would call your bank and see if the fees can be waived. If you are a good customer, chances are they should work with you. I know this is a stressful situation.

This is why my DH has no access to the bills account. We each have separate accounts for our own spending and one just for paying bills (like rent and elec.) that no one can use for anything but bills (it can't even be used for grocery shopping), and the debit card and checkbook for it is not allowed to leave the house. Money goes into that one first to make sure we have enough for bills and then whatever is left, if any, goes into the other accounts.
