I'll have to start putting buns in the freezer. It is rarely an issue with a loaf of bread as dh eats sandwich for lunch when I'm at work and I eat PB&J in the mornings

I'll have to try freezing some bread!

We bought two loaves of regular bread and 12 loaves of sub bread for NYE - we still have about 6 of the sub loaves and 1.5 of the regular! LOL Is there anything special you do to help keep it fresh?

I make mini pizzas with leftover buns.. even when they're starting to get a little harder and not so soft and squishy, they work fine b'c they get toasted. Open them flat, and dress them up anyway you want. then bake at 450 for like 10 mins or so. Quick easy lunch, dinner, or snack

I usually keep a loaf of English muffins in the freezer to pull out for small pizzas the kids love them! Its also a great way to use up spagetti sauce!

I find they stay fresh if they are frozen while they are still in their fresh stage and wrapped in plastic. I usually keep them in the bag they came in, use what I need, put the tie back on, and pop them back into the freezer.

I'd like to add to my 'small steps'

For 4 weeks now I've been planning a menu and shopping to the menu. It's been great - even if I don't stick to the menu we're not eating out - we fix something that we have at home!

I noticed the open bag a few days ago - no idea when we bought it, but the buns were still good, so I made a point to make hamburgers tonight. (Finished a pack of them out of our freezer no less!)

Have you made a small step lately?

I'm not sure if you've ever noticed, but with hot dog buns they give you eight, right, well with the hotdogs they usually come in ten, so what do you do with two extras, you either buy more buns or throw them out. It's all part of their plan, lol.

Oh I wanted to put my small step that I've been doing very good on, I might say, is cooking instead of eating fast food. Since we moved into our new place the first of Feb. we have only ate out one time and that was because of a doctor's appointment clear across town, but other than that my husband has been taking leftovers for lunch so nothing has been thrown out either.

I think that's a great idea, I've been doing good on the cooking part and I think that if I plan a meal this will keep us from getting tired of anytihing, keeping a variety of meals going.

Now I'm not sure if this is right or not, but I've been told that this is not good for the food, it does something to it and to divide it up first into proportions and take out what you need instead of freezing things and then thawing them out and refreezing them. Is this right?

Yes, I've heard this, too, but I *think* she meant she was just taking out the bread she planned to use and immediately putting the rest back--so no thawing and re-freezing. I'm assuming that is what she meant, (because that's what I do frequently), but I could be wrong.
