Chris and I decided last night that I am going to start doing our finances! It's something that I have wanted to be a part of for a while, but I didn't expect him to just give it up, and let me do it! I am excited though, it will be nice to know what's going on again

So I have a feeling I will be visiting this section of the board a whole lot! LOL

Good luck! I do all of ours too. Shawn's finally understanding (somewhat) that he can't just go out & buy crap on a whim. That's one thing I can't stand that he does! He's gotten better though.

I don't really have any system for paying bills. I'm working on it though.

Good luck with that! I just retook over doing the finances this year too. I used to do them, then dh didn't like how I was doing it so he started doing it. Well that increases his depression (seeing how muchmoney we DON'T have) and it was hard for him go do and putting us further in debt. SO now I do it again. LOL But since I've started coming to this board, I've learned alot and now I'm a pro and can pay all the bills. So far so good.

CHris has done them since we were married, but I always knew what was going on. But in the past 3 or so years, I've been completely out of teh loop, and feel like I have no say. So we just deecided that it would be good for him not to have that stress, and for me to know more about what's going on... so I guess only time will tell!

My dh and I have two accounts. Our acct. was originally his at the small town bank waaaay before we got married and we just added my name to it and his paycheck goes there and the bills get paid from there so he's always been paying them. I have my own account b/c I hate the small town bank (the debit card never wants to work) so I opened an account in the town where I work. We use it to cover anything the joint account doesn't cover and as a pre-savings account...Does that make sense?

Well dh got into a bad habit of blowing money on junk and the joint account was overdrawn (which I didn't know b/c I don't use it for anything) so now the finances are back in my control and dh is fully on board for some changes!

I do all the bills, savings, etc. It really works for us because DH has that "out of sight out of mind" mentality when it comes to spending!

I have always looked after the finances. We have one account that all the money is deposited in, bills paid from etc. I give him updates periodically but he doesn't seem to have a need to know the specific details. He also never spends on a whim which really helps.
It has changes a little in the past year since he has his own company and has to bill his clients, but I am involved in that too so have the big picture.

We have two bank accounts both are joint accounts but one is our main account that DH's paycheck gets deposited into and all bills are paid from that account. The other account DH uses, he works out of town a lot (sometimes weeks at a time) and he uses this account for meals and things he needs. It's just easier to have a account for DH to use instead of me asking him how much he spent everyday.

After I learned about the financial crisis dh put us in, I insisted on being in charge of the finances. Since then, we've started using the help of a credit counselor. Dh and I decided that I would write the checks, but that we would make sure each of us saw all of the bills and knew where the money was going. We're still working on a system that will work, but our big thing was : NO MORE dishonesty about finances. I think we're on the right track.

Best of luck to you. I know it's not easy, and it can feel scary to know that you have all of the financial burden on yourself.

I have always paid the bills, dh will pay them if I can't get around to do it. But mostly I make him sit with me and we do it together. When I would do it all by myself he could never figure out where his paycheck had gone. He would also complain about school shopping and grocery shopping. So now he does the grocery shopping and if he complains too much then he gets to go school clothes shoppin with 2 TEENAGE girls!LOL He begs to be let go after about 2 hours and I usually let him after he tells me how really good I am!!
So whoever pays the bill I would just really try to keep communication flowing about where the money goes and maybe every 3rd month or so do it together. It is such an eye opener and then they can be aware of how very wonderful we are and if they don't get it they can come on over and budget shop with my girls!!
