and only need to get things from a small list, do you like to grab a cart or not? Sometimes I think that if I just didn't grab the cart, then I wouldn't have bought so many impulse buys!

I never thought of this, but you're right.

I always have a cart when i am with my kids, obviously. But when I shop by myself, and have nothing to put things in, I definitely buy less.

If I only have 1 kid with me, I don't get a cart. They walk along side me and I hold the things I want to buy. Sometimes it is quite a balancing act. Sometimes I shove smaller items like a can into my pockets. Then my son accuses me of stealing and I have to show him that I am paying for it.

I grab one of those baskets and it really does help avoid impulse shopping - especially at Target, where the impulse things tend to be larger!

The last time I went to Wal-Mart I didn't get a cart because I only needed 3 things and knew I could carry them easily. I ended up with about 10 things and looked pretty funny trying to carry it all - BUT I'm absolutely sure I would have bought even more if I had used a cart. I try to do this at the grocery store too - just grab a basket to carry instead of a cart when I'm just going in for a couple of things. It does help.

I backfire at this, I never get a cart or basket thinking it will help me not impluse buy, but then I end up with a bunch of stuff and have to carry it all around. Luckily I normally find an empty cart around

I get the basket too and then when it gets too heavy I know I have too much. If I really just need to get a few things I just pick them up by hand so I won't be tempted to buy more.

I managed to get in and out of the grocery store today with the one item I needed ... a first for me going in for one thing and coming back out with only one thing. The thrill of small success. :D

nope unless I have my dd then I will get a cart but if I am just going to get a few things I always get a hand basket so that I can only get what I need.
