One of my favorite things to do with my daughter about twice a year is to make crayons! We save up all the broken and almost-but-not-quite-used-up pieces. Then we sort them into disposable plastic drinking cups (sans paper, of course) according to color. We then melt the crayons in the microwave - this will vary according to your microwave, but I have found that 30-45 second increments on medium works the best. Stir them every so often as you heat to make sure you get all the lumps!
Pour the liquified crayons into plastic candy molds.* Allow them to cool, and pop them out! You have a brand new set of fun-shaped crayons that are the perfect size for little hands! Sometimes, we get really silly with some of the pieces that don't match another color, and we throw them all together in one cup! It's fun guessing what the final color of the "mystery crayon" will be!
*Note: Make sure the liquified crayon is not too hot, or you will melt your candy molds!
