I finally took all of my extra mittens and mismatched hat/scarf sets that no one wanted anymore and found a purpose for them.

I put a "kit" in each car during the winter that has enough mittens/gloves/scarves/socks for everyone in case we were in an accident or stranded in bad weather. No one will care if they are wearing mittens that don't match if they are that cold!

As a bonus, if i come across the mitten's long-lost partner, I know where to find his mate!

This way I don't feel so bad if I have to buy a new set of mittens for my kids- knowing that at least their other ones are being "used" for a good purpose.

not a bad idea at all!

I only buy the same sock. all white so that I dont have any mismatched ones. Every six months I buy us each 2 packs of hanes while socks. DD#1 gets the ones with purlpe toes. DD#2 get the pink toes and I get plain while. IT makes sorting easy and if a mate gets lost nodody knows.

I use mismatched socks on my hand to clean my furniture. Put the sock on your hand spray your table and wala off you go. I then turn the sock inside out on the bottle of furniture polish.
