I am looking to lower our car insurance bill and could use some advice. Currently we are paying $200 a month. Which to me seems like a lot for 2 cars and 2 people. My mother pays less than that with 4 cars and 3 people (one of whom is my 17year old sister)

So I am wanting to look into other companies and wanted to get your opinions. What insurance company do you have or have you had in the past? Do you like them?

I was curious about geico and progressive also but wondered how they would be. I'm a little leery b/c if you have a problem you can't just go down to their office to fix it. If anyone has them have you ever had to file a claim with them? How do you like them?

Thanks in advance for all your help. BTW I have allstate right now.

i have Geico and have not had any problems with them, I lost my card a couple of times and they even emailed me a temp card to my house so I could print it out till they mailed me one.
I had a valet parking incident a couple of months back and i called them and they told me to go to the local adjusters they have all over the US and they figured out how mucht he damage would cost, he cut a check right there and it was mailed to me.
They were all very nice and friendly and I really like the company.
I pay $117 a month and I have 2 cars, one is comprehensive coveerage and the other isnt.
I do have high deductibles to keep the premuim down.

We have Farmers and have had them for years. We insure 2 later model cars with 2 drivers and pay $110 a month. We have high deductibles as well. We get a discount for having homeowners insurance and I have a life insurance policy with them. That may be another way to get your rates down ~ do you have homeowners insurance with Allstate? I don't think that Geico and Progressive offer homeowners, so if you would go that route, you would need another insurer for your home.

Make sure you are getting all the discounts you can. Maybe you just need to review your current insurance and double-check that you're getting those discounts. Our agent sometimes overlooks those. We get discounts for being good drivers, ABS, persistence, car alarm and we also get a discount since DH is an engineer.

As far as claims, we've only had one in 20 years and that was for a stolen vehicle. It was a pain, since Farmers wanted to low-ball us on the vehicle's worth, but we did get what we were asking for.

Good luck!

We have Liberty Mutual and get a discount for having 3 cars and our home owners insurance plus being credit union members. We pay $163/mo with one vehicle having full comp/collision coverage w/$1K deductible I've filed claims on-line and make changes often (adding/subtracting) with no problems. Good luck!! You might as well get the geico and progressive quotes!

We used to have Progressive, and had a few problems. Like that whenever I called the local office I could NEVER get my agent and was always on hold. Also, they were always having to raise my premium for some reason or another. (and not for a good reason, like speeding tickets or accidents.)

I switched to Geico and my insurance went down $200 dollars a year. Also they have great customer service, and their website is easy to use to pay and do things like that. I love them.

I've been w/Allstate and Farmers - they play games, but were solid. But, they were quite expensive and hiked rates for no reason regularly. Was with AIG, HATED them.

American Family is good, but expensive, but keep in mind, it depends on where you live and what you drive.

We have been with Progressive Direct for a few years now and are about 80% happy with them. No major problems and their payment terms are good. In addition, I can save over $300 a year if I pay my total premium in a lump every six months.

We have Mutual of Enumclaw. Not sure if they have it where you are or not. Right now we pay $72 a month for 2 cars (1 liability only and 1 full coverage) and our house. We love it and have had reallly good service w/ them.
Farmers is good though too. Dont remember how much we paid when we were w/ them but they were really good too us. The only reason we switch was b/c a really good friend of ours works for Mutual of Enumclaw.

We have State Farm...I used to work for the agent we have, and I LOVE her. She explains things so well and we're happy with the prices. We also have our home and other policies with her.

We have not had any accidents or anything. Knock on wood...lol It did lower our car premuims by like $70 a month. A huge savings in my book.

Up until this year we have used Progressive and were very happy with them. My MIL switched to them and got in an accident and had no trouble with her claim. I could always get a freindly representative on their 800 number no problem. The only reason we switched is becuae we changed vehicles on the policy and then they hiked the rate much more than other copmanies.
