I know that everyone has heard about the health benefits of breastfeeding. It can save you a ton of money on artificial breastmilk (formula) and even a ton on doctor bills from the decrease in illnesses. But, did you know that it is a great moisturizer and diaper rash treatment? After a feeding, simply rub in any remaining milk to baby's chubby cheeks and see how beautiful his or her complexion is! It works well for baby acne and cradle cap, too. Also, if baby has a little diaper rash, just put a little milk on baby's bottom at diaper change. It should clear right up. Don't forget that breastmilk works great in place of lanolin creams for mom's nipples, too!

It was by accident at first, but when dd was coming down w/pink eye after her older brother shared it, I sprayed breastmilk into her eye. Whether it was that or the administering of antibiotic drops at the first sign, or both, hers cleared up very quickly. Some people use it for earaches, too. Never thought to use it on her cheeks - she has dry skin, since yes, it does help sore nipples.

I've heard BM can help cuts heal faster too. When ds cuts himself w/his nails I try to rub some bm in the cuts to speed healing! LOL

I always breast fed my kids, but I never heard of those other things, wow I wish I would've, but I enjoyed the time that I spent with my kids by breast feeding them. I know that when I was still feeding my son at six months my in laws started asking me, wow you're still breast feeding him? I thought that was absolutely ridiculous for them to ask since he was just then getting his teeth and it's not like he would remember it anyway, about my breasts anyway. Now I'm not saying to feed them until they go to school or anything but there is nothing wrong with up to a year, in fact they say to feed them up to a year since they are doing so much growing and things.

Wow, that's good to know. I always would rub a little breast milk on my nipples in the early days and it worked wonders, but I never even thought to use it on diaper rash or dry skin, etc. I'm still nursing my younger dd, so I'll have to try that if she ever gets another diaper rash or anything.

Thanks for the tip!

My mom recently askedme how long I planned to nurse. I told her right nowmy 'mini' goal is 6mos. But I hope to BF until at least a year - that's how long he'd be on formula anyway and no use adding an expense! I'm not sure yet how *I* feel about us nursing longer than that - so we'll make that decision when the time comes.

My "mini" goal is being able to BF until 6mo, but with a "long term" goal of BF to a year with DS also. Beyond that we will wait and see. I loved BF my children knowing that I am able to do something I feel is good for them. Plus, the time it takes forces me to slow down and enjoy this time with them.
