I'm a major saver. I was raised by parents who went through the Great Depression/WW II. People who grew up during that time are usually very good with money and try to pass that knowledge along to their children. I'm so much of a saver that it actually makes me somewhat physically ill to spend any money.

My dh used to be a bit of a spender (I guess the Great Depression/WW II thing his parents went through didn't rub off on him), but my influence has changed him. I'll admit that I'm an excessive saver (to the point of being a money hoarder), but that fact that my dh is willing to spend some money from time-to-time balances out our personalities.

Sometimes I think I am one...then the other. I seem to go in cycles of either being a grinch or a spendall...not good. I will think more on that one. A happy medium would be ideal.

Well I hate to admit it but we have already filed bankruptcy after 5 years of being married and we will be married 6 years in April! So in turn I think that we both WERE big spenders and now we have settled more. THat is why I am here to learn from all of you fine ladies. I am still learning! And so is he!

I am unfortunately the spender and so is dh! Yikes. Well I'm a more thrity spender than he is though. I look for sales and good deals and don't buy expensive things. But dh doesn't even look at prices and his hobbies are quite expensive.

However we are both moving over to the saver side. I am lowering all our bills, cutting out un necesary junk, and really limiting our spending. I'm "secretly" saving more money just incase dh goes over board. I got the idea from another poster on here who fakes the checkbook register so it looks like there is less money than there really is. Its a nice cushion and keeps me from worrying.

some days i crave giving in to the dark side (spender) but most of the time, I'm the saver. I keep the finances in order, so I know how much money is in the bank, and what the pop-up expenses (prescriptions, car repairs) can do to us. DH is the spender, at heart. He's changed from the beginning of our marriage, where he was pretty bad. he's gotten better. Instead of wanting tons of video games and stuff, he realizes where we are financially and always asks me what I think (and for permission) to buy something. If I say we don't have the $, it's a done deal, no hard feelings. (I used to feel guilty about him not being able to have some nice things in return for working so hard to provide for our family.) I'm almost dreading the first few paychecks of his promotion - he'll be on this high and want to buy stuff and I'll have to talk him down to just like one thing (for me, that's a perm I've been wanting for almost a year now).. I hope he goes with the flow and agrees with us SAVING the extra money..

You've come to the right place. There are lots of us on this board who are former spenders and are way happier with the life we are leading now. Welcome.

I'm a saver! I will splurge on things here and there, but for the most part I save!
