I am trying to budget, getting ready to be a SAHM and I'm thinking of the little things we pay for each month. DD1 and I get a hair cut every 6 weeks costing $25 ($7 for her, $15 for me and I give her $3 tip). DD2 doesn't have enough hair to cut yet Hubby pays $8 every 4 weeks and gives his girl no tip

Am I paying too much or should I be like hubby and not tip or is this reasonable? Or should I grow my hair out? LOL

I think you should always tip for a job well done...and I think those prices are GREAT! The one thing you could do to save money, though, is to trim up your dd's on your own. From her picture, it is long with bangs? If so, it is not hard to trim bangs yourself...just make sure to go longer rather than too short!

i'm lucky because my fiance is balding... he likes his hair very short... i dont like it totally shaved, because then he is not as snuzzable (kissable on the back of the neck and cuddly... ya, we're dorks). so a couple years ago he got a hair clipper set... it has different attatchments for different lengths etc... so we use that. it's free. i got experimental last time and tried to do a brush cut... really short at the neck, gradually getting longer at the top. it looked ok, but took a long time. i can cut his hair all one length in about 10 minutes. and when i was younger, my mom used to trim my hair and bangs. if you take take sections of hair and twist them and then cut into the ends sort of diagonally, not straight across, you get a nice layered effect, and it looks professional. you need good scissors, though, but still, after that initial purchase, it is free. i can;t justify spending money on haircuts when i can do a fine job on my own. i would never subject my kids to a bowl cut or anything like that, but a nice layered trim, or all one lenght works fine. as for me, i have long hair and dont color it or anything, so i only need a cut every 6 months or so. i get a discount because i work in the mall, so 25 bucks plus tip for a high quality spa haircut. worth it.

Mine has grown out since being a SAHM but my advice is to watch for coupons. One just came in the mail yesterday for a cut for $6.99 so BYE BYE split ends! LOL

But for $10 (inc. tip) I'll be set until the next coupon comes out. Oh and you could cut your dd's bangs yourself if you know that it's only hair and will grow back! Ask my poor 4 year old DD...when she was 2 I cut her bangs myself ... rotfl!!! Even though her name is Molly she permanently has the nickname MOE (you know from the three stooges!) LOL!

And for my DH -- we have some clippers we paid like $10 for and he cuts it himself!

Well, actually that picture I have up is pretty old. My 2 year old is that little 1 week old baby in the pic LOL I need to get my sister to help me put a newer pic on my computer so I can put it up. I did use to cut my 4 year old's bangs and it was fine until she started eating her hair. It drove me nuts so I took her to a friend of mine who would cut at her house for $5. She trims the sides to frame her face and the hair can't reach her mouth! So, I can't really do that and make it look nice.

Anyway, I called her one time and she said I had to bring her to the shop cause she wouldn't be home and it's $7 there. Now that DD has been to the salon, she won't go back to the girl's house!

If worse comes to worse though, I could just trim her bangs and let her hair grow out again. Thanks for the tips.

I got myself a Remington hair trimmer with a vacuum attached (So it sucks up hair as Im cutting) I cut my sons hair probably every few weeks with it. I spent about $30 for it, but pays for itself in no time.
My dh goes to the barber and pays about $10 (with tip) every few weeks. I have long hair and just cut it myself when I feel its getting to long.

Ok, now I'm about to sound cheap but this is what we do.

Dd and I both have our hair in a 'bob' style with no bangs. We get it cut (by about 3-4 inches) once a year and then let it grow out for the rest of the year. We each get it cut in a different season so we don't look too similar. I cut mine shorter in the spring when hers is the longest so I can tie her hair back for the summer. I get hers cut in Sept before school. Last year I really cheaped out and did the $10 hair cut. This year, because we only do it once, I'll go to a nicer place and get it done for $25 + 20% tip (normal in our area) and get a good cut.

I pay $10 for ds and $12 for me with a tip for both haircuts. So $26 bucks for both of us. Thats not every month though. Maybe every 2-2 1/2 months.

Here is a picture of us so you can see what you look like. I'll delete it later in the day becasue dh doesn't like me putting our photos online.
They're so cute! That's a good idea to only get cut once. I'd have a lot of growing out to do with lots of layers and bangs, DD has bangs as well, but that's a very good idea and cute cuts.
