When doing home improvements don't forget the IRS will give you a $500 credit for energy saving improvements. Windows, doors and insulation all count. Also a water saving wash machine.
Check with local electric company for rebates on appliances that are low energy use.
Here's a link I found from the IRS. I didn't find anything about the washer specifically yet, but it also mentions hybrid vehicles, metal roofs, solar heated items, etc. Definitely worth checking out . . .
