I have subscribed to her website after reading her book Debt Proof living and it helped us to re-allocate our saving/debt priorities several years ago. But I have been reading Dave Ramsey lately (since it was brought up on the board) and like what he has to say too.

Has anyone read/done Mary Hunt's Debt proof living and Dave Ramsey's plan together or likes one "plan" over the other?

sorry, I don't know enough about either plan to say. I just like both of them and take what I can use and dump the rest. I never follow any one plan.

Yeah, I'm kind of the same. I read her D-P Living book and then read her D-P Your Marriage book. (That one was better) I also read Ramsey's book. I decided to use most of Mary's ideas, but some just don't work for me. I'm taking what I can use and modifying the rest!

I've never read either of their books. I'm with allgirls, I just take what I can use in my circumstances and don't worry about the rest.

Mary Hunt's Rapid Debt Reduction Plan makes sense if you can swing it, the trick is to always pay what you do right now each month on your credit cards/ other debts. Even when the minimum payment goes down you still pay what you were before. I enjoy her because she is someone who racked up debt, hit rock bottom, and pulled herself out. On the other hand I don't picture myself having $10,000 in an emergency fund any time soon.

I've been re-reading Mary Hunt's books, and having just read Dave Ramsey's I think the differences are (and this is JMO) that Mary Hunt teaches you how to live debt free and Dave Ramsey teaches you how to get debt free. That is really generalized, but I agree with you all that you have to pick and choose what works for you and what doesn't. What really matters is that you stick with it and make progress towards savings and staying debt free.

We are working towards having more in our emergency fund, but we won't see $10,000 very soon either, but it I know it is an achievable goal!!

I have read Mary Hunt's Debt Proof Living book and I subscribe to her newsletter and website because I like the message boards and have gotten some good ideas off of it. However, I don't see where I will EVER have $10,000 emergency fund. I have not read anythign of David Ramsey so I can't compare. Sorry I cant be of more help!
