Here is another tip - I take each bill as it comes in and read it with a fine toothed comb, paying attention to ALL detail. For example recently I received a product from my phone company that would not work with our current computer system. I returned it for a refund... after a careful review of my bill I realized they credited me for the product but not the nearly 5.00 in taxes - I called and got an immediate credit. This type of things happens often. Also, a sudden increase in gas, water, electrical consumption, etc.... might indicate a problem that needs to be fixed in your car/home.

My Mom does this and she has caught a couple of costly mistakes. Just imagine if she hadn't.
Now that I think of it, my DH travels at times and I remember checking his hotel bill on our mastercard. They charged us for 4 additional nights in error, to the tune of almost $500! Can you imagine if I hadn't checked? makes me shutter to think!
