Well, here's the thing. Since they were from 2005, and I don't have the receipt, I have no idea how much I paid. There was a bar code scanner on my order 'bag', and I would assume that if my order was still in the computer, she printed out what I paid ~ heck maybe I did pay that amount, I'm not sure since it was from two years ago, contrary to my original post that said I Know that I didn't pay that much. I really don't know, you know?

I don't think it was honesty or integrity issue at all. Previously I've waited in lines for a half an hour to write a replacement check for merchandise that was scanned incorrectly and I didn't even get a thank you. I was late to pick ds up from preschool, but I wanted to do the right thing, so I don't think I'm out to 'get' anyone.

If my information was in the computer, then didn't they know what I paid? If the prices go up, are they indebted to give me the price of the merchandise now? And if they have to make good on that, is that my fault? And if I have no idea what I really paid, what am I going to say, "I bought this when they are on sale, but I don't know how much. Oh and then I used a coupon so it was an extra ___ percent on top of that, but I'm not sure which sale, which discount code, gosh what Date I bought them." So if the woman has my information in the system and prints me out a receipt for that amount, heck I signed it. My conscience is clear.

Well, that certainly sounds much less sinister than your first post. That one made me think you KNEW for sure you had paid hundreds of dollars less and just didn't say anything about it. Yes, if it was two years ago and you don't remember what you actually paid and it seems to be in their system then good for you. That IS a nice chunk of change to go toward your home equity line...

By the way, what was your name on the last board? I have been trying to remember and can't for the life of me.

I'm sorry, but the current price is the going rate whether it is in your favor or not. If you return something without a receipt and it is on sale, even though you know you paid 70% more for it, they refund the sale price...not the price you paid. That said, if you did get it on sale, then it went up and you don't have a receipt, you should get what they are charging for it now. I don't think that you did anything wrong. Now, buying it on sale and holding it in the event that they mark them back up just so that you can return them and make a profit....that's wrong in my opinion.

Rose, Pearl, montessori mom.....I think.

Holly cow Im surprized you could return something you bought two years ago. I know that would never have worked at Dillards.

Thank you! It has gotten so hard to keep up with all the board changes and I knew she had been on a LONG time.

It had really been bugging me that I couldn't remember who it was...

wow! I've never had that happen to me. When I do returns, they usually ring up for the lowest price the store has had the item for and I get jipped out of my money. I now keep receipts for EVERYTHING I buy until I know for sure I won't be taking it back b/c of this. For instance, I bought a toaster at a store chain that shall remain nameless. It cost me $40.00 when I bought it originally. Well, for my wedding shower, I got one that I liked so much more, so I took the other back. I didn't have my receipt and when the customer service lady rang it up, it came up to $18 and some change. I about pitched a fit, but couldn't do anything about it because "the toaster had been on sale in the past month and they only give credit for the cheapest price for the time period." I learned my lesson about receipts after that.

I agree that if you did it intentionally that would be wrong; however, you didn't, so I wouldn't worry about it.
