Went to Penny's to return a whole slew of unopened drapes/curtains that we never got around to putting up in our bedroom. I figure we won two free hours of house decorating consults so maybe they will have different ideas.

Anyway, I KNOW I purchased all this stuff on sale and got a really good deal. However, when I returned it I found out just how much of a deal I got. Apparently the woman credited our cc for the amount the items are worth Now instead of when I got them on sale. The total: (drum roll, please) Seven HUNDRED and Eight Eight dollars!!!!! We won't have to pay our cc for a month with all the credit. You cannot imagine how this makes me feel!!! That is our first step to whittling down our equity line. Just had to share!

I am sure it is hard not to be super excited about getting back more money than you paid..... but shouldn't you let Penneys know?? It seems like an integrity issue.
I would let them know that you got credited more than you originally paid....and then if they tell you there's nothing they can do to fix it, it would be your money to keep without feeling like you were taking advantage.

Sorry to bring down the exictement. I am sure most people out there would just keep the money. But I firmly believe that it is wrong.

I expect that many of you will probably not agree with point of view. I like the fact that this site allows for differences of opinion.

I agree, you should let them know you bought them on sale...those type of mistakes are passed on to the consumer..YOU, me and everyone who shops there...

I totally agree with this. Especially since we have had so many posts lately about integrity and honesty...

It just doesn't seem that honest to me.

I also want to add that I am a little dismayed at the responses that this was a great thing.

I have had a similar thing happen to me and I spoke up. The cashier told me she could do nothing about it so the money was mine.

If she doesn't have the receipt there is likely nothing that Penny's can do. I know when I worked in retail what it scanned is what we did. We couldn't override the computer without a receipt and management approval. The integrity issue...that's up to the individual.
