Wow, I'm really excited to get started on this. I got the Total Money Makeover book from the library and have been trying to read it so I can figure out what I have to do. It's amazing - the first few chapters were so true!!! I can't wait to start this and really hope I can get my dh on board b/c I know it won't work if he's not doing it too!!!

Someone, please tell me what the envelope system is. Also, what is the name of Dave Ramsey's book?

I just finished Financial Peace Revisited last night. I've made out a budget and a list of things we need to do to cut back expenses. I've got my envelopes ready. Today is dh's payday (2x/mo) and I'll be filling them up tonight and starting fresh tomorrow. I'm so excited to get our finances in line.

finleyandjudemommy, the envelope system is the same as a budget, each catergory has an amount and you do not go over spending that amount. instead of keeping all the numbers in the computer or on paper and using cards ect. you actually take the money out of the bank and allocate the money to each enevleope(category) and then use that money for the week/month of that time. If you finishthe money from one envelope, you either wait till the next pay period or you take money from a nother envelope. You cannot take more money out of the bank. If you have money left over in one catergory you can move it to another catergory, leave it there for the next pay period or put it in saving and start again the next pay period.

ok I cashed my check today and paid all the bills that are due, I'll fill both vehicles up and I should still have about $100 left over. I don't know how that happened but it did. So I'm going to put that away for DH next payday for groceries because there's never any grocery money. I gotta say my stomach was not in knots when I went to write out bills. I just depositted enough to cover the checks that had to be written.

Now if DDs and I (5 of us) can eat at Red Lobster on Wednesday for about $50 life will be good. If I could get out of eating there I would but it's my DF's 70th Bday and this is where he wants to celebrate. But I budgetted for it so we should be ok. I'm gonna see if I can find a coupon online.

Ok, curiosity is getting the better of me! I'm going to the library over my lunchbreak to check out this book.
Wouldn't that qualify as taking the first step - I'm checking the book out for FREE vs. buying it !

Well, I tried to check it out at my local (small town, rural) library and they only have 1 copy and its checked out with 2 people on the reserve list. Patience is something I don't possess, so I did just buy it on EBay, however I did price compare with Ebay, Half. com and Amazon. Baby steps............
