I hate to admit it, but I think my husband's right about this. I was always the one that if something went on sale, I'd stock up to high heaven. About a week or two ago I realized that it was costing me a lot more than I expected.

I shop Ralphs for groceries because of the double coupons. The last couple times I noticed that I wasn't saving more than 1/2 my bill. It didn't dawn on me until the checker told me that they don't double the coupons on the 2nd same item, only on the first. Here I was buying 4-6 of the same thing with matching coupons and paying more! Rats.

Now I realize that if I stick to just getting one each with double coupon, I'll save much more and not accumulate so quickly. If I need more, I can either pay under a separate receipt (if that works) or go another day/time or to another store.

What prompted me to write this is the online discussion under Deals & Shopping > In Store about the FREE Target Choxie coupon. Some have gone out and got (30) free bars at a time or complained to management, even Corporate, about using more than one coupon at a time. The greediness by some is going to kill this promotion, as the Starbucks FREE latte coupon was killed after the 2nd day last fall. If it does, at least I'll be able to say that I got a couple while it lasted.

Wow this is good information. We don't get double coupons in Canada, but I'm sure there are lots of people out there thinking they are saving when they aren't.

Good observation. I don't have double coupons here so never do the big stock up unless it is at aldi's. With some in store coupons you can only use one a week per family. Being in a small town here every one at the store knows me so I pretty much stick with the one coupon rule.

You are right that some people go a bit overboard with the Target coupons and have made it hard on others. When Target had the Mexican item coupons and Mac & Cheese I was right there getting my .10 mac and cheese. But I only used a few coupons at a time and would then go to the car and come back in (since the nearest target is 45 min from my house). Some people were using 50+ at a time! No wonder Target started to question everyone. We just need to remember to be careful not to abuse the coupons.

I did get quite a few boxes but not all at one time.

I completely hate it when I have to say DH was right! LOL Not so hard to say your DH was right. Sometimes they make sense if we listen to them.

I have also noticed that my massive stock piling has cost me more. I have given up on coupons unless they are for something I was going to buy anyway or something thats going to be almost free. For the last two months I just buy store brand everything and stick to my list.

At our local Kroger, they double everything, as many as you want buy, etc. I love that and I've been stocking up. However, at the Ingles, they only double a certain number of coupons before they stop, and you're right, I ended up spending more than I was saving. I try to do things in moderation b/c it's just me and my dh, I know I won't go through 20 bottles of ketchup before they expire even though they are on sale for only $.10 a bottle. It just doesn't make sense, so I buy what I absolutely know we will use in the timespan.
