I just noticed there is a new Craig's LIst for our area. Has anyone listed anything on Craigslist? Did you have a positive response? It's free to list, right? So I can see where that would have the appeal over listing fees on eBay.
Has anyone bought anything on Craigslist? Would you do it again?

I haven't posted there yet, but I do plan to. It is free. The biggest thing is, like anywhere, there are weirdos encountered. I tried to help a supposed grandma out whose daughter had nothing for her baby. She was all "bless you" until I proposed that my husband be the one to meet her w/the items at his office, and then when that didn't work out later on her side, I proposed meeting at a doctor's office I was going to. Never heard from her again.
There are some nasty people there, and I've gotten nasty replies to my inquiries, or no reply at all.
But I do think the majority are fine. I met a really nice young mom and bought a large toy off her. It ended up not working all the way, but I honestly don't think she knew that, because it happened a few weeks after getting it. We met in a grocery store parking lot, and she actually told me to contact her w/dd's clothes if I wanted to. So, yes, I do plan on using it again, with all the precautions.
The down side is that people in NY won't look at postings in Phoenix, so lower visibility, but also no shipping, since all is local.

I've listed larger Little Tikes items twice and received replies right away. Both were very favorable transactions.
Just take precautions when it comes to meeting. I also specified that the price was FIRM and CASH ONLY on my listings. I didn't want to "haggle" and it worked out fine.
Good luck!

That is a great idea, and one I don't know I would have considered. You can never be too safe.

I really like Craigslist- have bought and sold. There are definitely some weirdos, but no worse than freecycle, or probably even ebay from some of the stories I've heard. It is free to list, and since you don't have to bid you know the price you are paying right away
If listing, I would post pictures with your listing, definitely state price is firm and cash only or prepay PayPal. I've sold some larger items where meeting wasn't a possibility so made sure to state that they bring a truck and help for loading. Always have DH present if someone is coming over
When buying I try to meet at the local Walmart since its a central location and I am well familiar with it
I'd give it a go if you have items to sell - baby and furniture items do well here. There are always other items listed for sale, but I don't know how well they sell
Good luck!

Wow, I may have to check that out! If it is local to you, it would be pretty close to me too!

I'm on there alot, I sell ALOT on CL, at least a couple hundred a month. I'm an addict you could say!
CL is great but as women you always have to be on your guard. I never give out my address until having talked with them over the phone, you get a much better sense if they are crazy or not over the phone. Most of the people I sell to are other sahms since I sell mostly kid stuff and alot are repeat buyers. I schedule pickups over the weekend or in evenings when my dh is home for new people. Only the moms I know already come over during the day. If it's ever a man responder or someone that I feel weird about I say meet at target cuz it's right next door. You say cash only in your listings and most people will try to lower your price. I normally price mine well so I don't have to go lower. Most of the time you can get good deals but sometimes people overcharge, just like ebay. But I'm sure you know your prices so you won't have that problem! It is completely free and very easy to use. You can set up a cl account which makes selling ALOT easier! Have fun!

I use craigs list fairly often - I'm addicted to browsing, and I've made some purchases off of it.... We've also sold & given away a few things off of it - all positive experiences.
We found our daycare on there (a local SAHM saw an ad I posted looking for child care). And currently I'm using it to find housing for rent in Maryland (we're moving next month).

I've requested for them to add our area to their list, but so far I don't think they have. I would love to give it a try though. Good luck, Kim, with your ventures. Let us know how it goes.
