While posting in a different thread I came up with an idea that might help you stay on the road to financial freedom.

For many of us, the amount of debt may seem over whelming and as if there will never be an end to it. We often start off like gang busters in the new year, only to feel frustrated as the winter months drag on.

For me, the thought of the amount of interest that is paid out to financial institutions, major department stores etc. is sickening.

So here is the idea. Pull out all of your bills that are aquiring interest. Add up the amount of interest that you are charged in just one month. Dig up some of your kids play money (or get some new stuff from the dollar store) and put that amount in a jar or clear see-through container. If you don't have play money, write the dollar amount in bold on a small piece of paper.

Keep this jar somewhere where you will see it. Maybe on the kitchen counter, your bedroom dresser or beside your purse and car keys. Heck, maybe keep it in your car so as you are driving to the store you will see it first!

Every time you think you want to skip a payment, or add to your debt, look at the jar and think that paying interest is just like throwing that money in the garbage. Hey you could keep it on the back of the toilet, and every time you flush imagine you are flushing your money down the pipes!

Maybe this will help you keep focused. Let me know if it helps and good luck!

I have actually copied our currency when I needed to use it to teach one of my kids. Make sure it is on heavier copy paper and you can write on the back and across it.
Boy ,visually it really gives the impact! of real cash!!

On "Your Money of your Wife" (from the UK), she has her participants give away cash to bystanders representing the interest they were paying, NO ONE liked thatidea.

One thing they were saying on these shows ( and Till Debt do Us Part) is that the more you have to handle your money, i.e. for groceries, gas etc, the more you have a sense of control of it.

So... no debit or credit cards, you go cold turkey.

That's a good idea. I'm going to try it. Dh and I haven't used our credit cards in over a year but we haven't gotten them paid off yet either.
