Does anyone know if instant coffee is cheaper than coffee grounds (taking into the consideration the amount of caffeine as well)?

Also, anyone know cheap sources of coffee? My sister is in the coffee biz in CA and so I will stock up next time I am there. I must admit, I was trying to give it up, but that didn't last!

I really don't know if instant is cheaper than ground. However, IMHO the taste difference is enormous. I find that instant does not have as a great taste. I think you would be better off buying the ground and making a nice pot. I usually take the leftovers and put it in the fridge in a plastic quart container for iced coffee in the afternoon.

I would say instant is cheaper, as it last a whole lot longer than ground coffee, however yes the taste is not as great. However we only use ground coffee as a treat and have normal instant coffee on a daily basis.

I guess you could call me a bit of a coffee snob, but I couldn't do instant. It just tastes awful to me. I have found that the Walmart brand of canned ground coffee is not bad and I've found that it's less likely to taste burned than Folgers (I've had several cans in the last few months that were terrible) hth.

I've never tried instant so I can not compare.

However, last month I did the Walgreens reabate... buy $10 of XX brand and get $5 back. So I purchased 5 cans of Maxwell house coffee and got my $5 back, with coupons it was rather cheap, well under $1 for a 22oz can, that's pretty darn cheap to me.

However, I'll admit that I am not a coffee snob, any coffee works for me since I drink it cols mixed with milk and a shot of Hershey's syrup all over ice. It's my homemade iced coffee and it's great.

Thanks for the input! I love my sisters coffee the best, it just needs milk. But, since I can't get it right now, I will settle for cheap and disguise it with sweetners and milk

I am working on my price book right now and I compared the cost at Sam's Club. Instant was 46 cents per ounce and the cheap ground coffee was 13.5 cents per ounce. Interesting!

The thing you need to think about with the price book and instant vs ground coffee..... you use alot less for instant than ground per cup. So you would need to figure out how much instant you use per cup and ground per cup and then compare that way.

I am way too much of a coffee snob ..... I now buy my whole bean coffee at a local coffee bean roaster place. Yes we spend about $10 a pound on coffee beans and grind them at home but it is much cheaper than DH buying a dunkin donut coffee every am to work.

Ugh! I don't care for instant coffee at all.. if i'm desperate and that's all there is.. I may have one.. but not often! I'd rather buy ground... I only drink 1-2 in the a.m. so it last's me a long time anyways... I say buy on sale and enjoy!
