For the life of me, I cannot remember if I've already started a thread about this topic. (And NO. . . it's not pregnancy brain! )

My dh and I got a GREAT deal at Walmart today on their Tyson chicken. Right before the sell-by-date, our Walmart discounts its meats - 30 percent. You can tell because they put these BIG yellow stickers on them. We saved $3.61 on 3 packages of chicken - PLUS we had $2.50 in coupons!! What a deal! The sell-by-date was tomorrow, so it wasn't like it was yucky, old meat.

Has anyone else bought the clearanced meats at Walmart? We haven't noticed any difference so far, and we feel great about saving 30 percent.

We have done clearanced meats before but not at Wal-Mart. We don't shop at Wal-Mart alot but I think we will start buying our meats there because they have such good deals on the family packs. King Soopers (Kroger) just switched there chicken and it is horrible. The bones are broken in the meat and it is just disgusting. So I think we are definately going to buy our meat somewhere else!!!

I buy clearanced meat all the time from Food Lion. We save a ton of money, especially if you combine the great price with coupons, and it tastes fine. We just use it right away or pop it in the freezer.

I also buy clearanced lunch meats and freeze them as well.

I think it is a great way to save grocery dollars.

I haven't bought meat at Wal Mart. But just a few days ago I bought meat on the sell by date with coupons on it. I bought the really small packages of lean ground beef (1.5 lbs) with $2 off coupon so it made it less than $1.50 per pound....... this is even better than the best sale. I already made hamburg patties and they are in the freezer.

You know, I am a bit of a meat snob, so fortunately we don't eat a lot of it! I only buy it at Sam's Club, Costco or Raleys/Bel Air (a NoCal chain). I won't buy it at Wal-Mart, but I shop there a lot for everything else.

Having said that, I will say that I do buy marked down means whenever I can find them (I don't get lucky that often). I have never had a problem. We eat them either that same day or I freeze them immediately. I agree it's a great way to save money on groceries!

We don't shop at Walmart, but I do buy clearance priced meats at Giant. There's a better selection if I get there early in the morning, like before 10 a.m. I either use it or freeze it the same day.

Best Day of the year to buy clearance meat? Christmas Eve! Most stores are closed on Christmas, so they don't want meat hanging around unsold. This year I got $60 worth of meat, pork, chicken and salmon for $20. Great deals- not even close to expiration, but the store just wanted it all sold before closing. My sister called and told me to go shop. I was glad I did- my kids really enjoyed the salmon.

We buy clearance meat from a high end grocery store here in Canada and it's always a super deal for great meat! They mark it down 4-5 days *BEFORE* the best before date!! So it's always good!!!

I just bought my clearanced meat on Friday. I don't get it at Walmart but I think most places do it. I usually try to buy my meat this way. I like to get the meat that's already on sale for their weekly promotions and then has a coupon attached to it because it's close to the sell by date.
